If there are economic troubles, it is not uncommon for individuals to be worried about losing their jobs. Granted, not all jobs are equally at risk of being cut during the course of an economic downturn or recession. Some careers appear to be much safer than other careers. Some jobs such as the following are recession-proof.
Medical-Related Careers
Medical professionals are always in demand. For example, nurses, physical therapists, dentists, physicians, health services administrators/managers and other medical professionals are always needed because there are always individuals who become ill and need medical care. Medical professionals typically work in schools, medical offices, community healthcare centers, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, and hospitals.
Pharmacists are allied health professionals who are likely to always be in demand because when people are ill, doctors prescribe medication. Thus, if one works as a pharmacist who dispenses medication, one will likely be able to find work. Granted, pharmacists do not do solely medication dispensing. Pharmacists also do telephone consultation or online consultation as well.
Education Careers
Education is another stable career area due to the fact that there will always be children, adolescents, and adults who need to attend school. Within the field of education, on the elementary and secondary school level, there is a need for teachers, principals, and school system administrators. In addition, there is a need for individuals such as school psychologists and counselors who can work with students who have emotional, academic, or behavior challenges.
On the college level and graduate school level, there is a need for professors and administrators because there are always students attending college in order to get a college education. Student affairs professionals are also in demand. Student affairs workers work in the various offices on campus such as the academic advising office, financial aid office, registrar's office, or career counseling office.
Computer Careers
Computer science can be a good career area to pursue. Whether the career interest is in being a computer systems analyst, network systems and data communication analyst, software design, or a network and computer systems administrator, if one is flexible geographically, that helps because businesses always have a need for competent computer workers.
Some individuals seek only a bachelor's degree in computer science. However, it could be useful to get a master's degree or doctoral degree in computer science because having a graduate degree will likely improve one's career possibilities. For instance, having a graduate degree could enable one to pursue a management position in computer science or pursue work as an independent consultant.
Accounting Careers and Bankruptcy Law Careers
Accounting can be a stable profession in times of recession due to the fact that even if the economic conditions worsen, people still have to pay taxes. As part of the process of paying taxes, people often need tax advice and tax preparation help. Accountants specialize in giving tax advice and tax preparation help. Thus, accountants work no matter what the economic circumstances are.
Bankruptcy lawyers are needed especially during times of economic crisis because people often find themselves having to declare bankruptcy at times of difficult economic circumstances. Bankruptcy attorneys are needed to help people through the process of bankruptcy as they submit information, go to court sessions, go through interviews, or any other aspects of bankruptcy.
The above-mentioned jobs represent just a small number of examples of recession-proof jobs. If interested in any of these jobs, find out more about these career paths. Seek information on what must be done to meet requirements to pursue these career paths. If the necessary education and experience can be done and if there is interest, one can pursue one of these careers.
